Running cop wins 280km ultra marathon

MANILA - A rookie police officer stationed in Lapu-Lapu City won a 280-kilometer ultra marathon, which started in Santander town and ended in Daanbantayan, Cebu province.

Police Officer 1 Brian Lou Guillen finished the South to North 280K Ultra Marathon with a total time of 24 hours and 7 minutes.

A Philippine National Police report said PO1 Guillen first joined a 160-kilometer marathon last January 31-February 1, 2014 before competing in the ultra marathon last July.

Guillen said the ultra marathon had 14 runners at the start but only 5 reached the cutoff time of 56 hours. Three runners continued to reach the finish line even beyond the cut-off.

Only six runners decided not to finish the race.

Guillen reached the finish line at Barangay Maya, Daanbanatayan, Cebu after 51 hours ,13 minutes and 38 seconds.

"All of these I achieved through God's grace, guidance and protection, and through the support of my family, friends, team mates and co-workers," he said.

The PNP praised Guillen for his total commitment and dedication to stay fit and healthy.
