P2M worth of unprescribed meds seized

BAGUIO - Authorities seized more than P2 million worth of unprescribed medicines such as Valium (diazepam), Cytotec, and Nubain (Nalbuphine hydrochloride) in a buy-bust operation at Tacay Road, Baguio City Wednesday afternoon.

Suspect "Erlinda" was arrested inside her house. Erlinda has been running the illegal distribution of unprescribed medicine since 2007.

The suspect sold the medicines to local pharmacies and doctors in the Cordillera Region for almost 7 years.

Almost P150,000 worth of checks from different doctors and more than P7,000 cash were confiscated from her.

Erlina claimed she is the only one who sells the illegal medicines to doctors and pharmacies. She said she sources her medicines from Pampanga but the Food and Drug Administration- Cordillera said the medicines were smuggled in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Jerusalem, and Canada.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said they are still investigating other distributors in the Cordillera.

The suspect will be charged with violating Section 5 and 11 of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
