CEBU -- An inmate at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) was caught allegedly bringing in illegal drugs concealed inside a "torta," a homemade cake famous in Argao town in southern Cebu.
The suspect, Norlyn Suico, attended a hearing of her case at the Regional Trial Court of Argao on Tuesday, for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
While she was in court, Suico met her mother, who gave her a bag of torta.
When Suico arrived at the CPDRC, jail guards found two sachets of illegal drugs inside the delicacy.
CPDRC consultant Marco Toral said they thoroughly inspecting inmates and their visitors to prevent entry of illegal drugs and other gadgets.
Toral said that aside from illegal drugs, they are also banning cellphones and other electrical devices in jail.
Suico has been in jail for more than four years.
