I agree with cattleya18. Let's remember that Cory NEVER forgiven nor pardoned the aging suspects of Ninoy's assasination. She disapproved of the release a couple of the suspects. She snubbed Imelda Marcos on one occassion. You should be extra-ordinarily forgiving to be a saint... and she's not. Remember how the late Ppe John Paul II forgave his assassin, he went straight to his prison cell after his hospital confinement and blessed with him- the doctors had to cut meters of his small intenstines due to the injury he got from his assasin. Let's remember the Luisita Massacre, too, and even how she never pushed anything o share their vast land with their farmers. I live in Manila but I think we are being OA with the attention we're giving to Cory. I respect herbut not to the extent of wanting her to be a saint because she's far from being one.

Another bishop on Tuesday pushed for the late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino's sainthood, believing that her canonization would encourage Filipinos to do good.
"Being a saint is for everybody. If she will be saint, more people will be encouraged to do good," Maasim Archbishop Precioso Cantillas said.
Cantillas said the late president is very much qualified to be declared a saint for living "a saintly life."
Various groups and even several bishops have supported proposals to declare Mrs. Aquino a saint. The proposals came as millions of Filipinos mourn the death of the former president, who died of complications from colon cancer last August 1.
In a most recent news item posted on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines' website, Archbishop Ramon Arguelles said Mrs. Aquino is "definitely a saint."
Arguelles, however, clarified that to become a saint, the Vatican must verify two miracles attributed to Mrs. Arroyo. He said declaring someone a saint may take centuries.
“It’s not bad (Aquino as a saint). One who declares someone to be a saint is God and then the church will only affirm. Definitely she’s a saint,” Arguelles said.
The bishop said if ever Vatican rejects proposals to declare Mrs. Aquino a saint, she would always be a "model," not only by Filipinos, but other people around the world.
“That would be enough. In God’s own time, if God wants her to be a symbol for many people, then we can say that she’s really a saint on her political life... Saint of People Power,” he said.
hmmm?!
everybody is well-aware of Pres. Cory's role in achieving our democracy, but i think sainthood is an overly deference to her. Mother Theresa had done more selfless works and still not canonized for her saintly works. I guess, people are just over-reacting on her(Pres. Cory's) death. Maybe she can be called martyr, but not a saint, and I have high regards to her for being the Mother of our Democracy, which is gradually being killed once again by her successors.
I only hope that people's out pour of love and support to her did not lay to rest with her in her tomb. that her death would wake us all up to change that would help our country rise from poverty.

I admired Cory in many ways, most particularly her contribution in the restoration of Philippine Democracy. However, the notion of Cory Aquino being a Saint is an extremely exaggerated expression of false admiration and fanaticism. People suggesting or believing this could be possibly showing how hopeless they are as a person. Cory a Saint can not save our country from poverty nor alleviate our lives. It is our faith upon ourselves propelled by hard work and determination can change our lives and prosper not only as individuals but a nation. Need a change? Stop the practice of fanaticism and to much sensationalizing of events, rather start believing in yourself and make your honest contribution this country by voting wisely. Fanaticism can bring this country down. Don't let history repeat itself. The future is in our hands. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.
