MANILA, Philippines – Raging floodwaters hit several subdivisions in Cainta, Rizal Friday night, causing panic among residents, Cainta Mayor Mon Ilagan said.

Ilagan said his office received calls from his constituents reporting that strong rains at around 9:30 p.m. triggered severe floods in the area.

Ilagan said waist-deep floods submerged Country Homes Subdivision and Greenland Subdivision.

St. Francis Subdivision and Youngstown Village were also hit by floods.

A strong flood current was also reported along Imelda Ave.

The mayor said the raging floodwaters flowed from San Mateo and Antipolo.

“’Yung tubig ay galing sa mga bundok kaya ang bilis ng current ng tubig ngayon sa mga subdivision,” he told dzMM.

Ilagan also warned motorists headed to Taytay and Antipolo to take alternate routes, saying the floods have caused heavy traffic at the Ortigas junction.
