MANILA - Retrieval operations have started for the Philippine Air Force Sokol helicopter that crashed in Marawi City on Thursday.
The aircraft, one of the new Poland-made helicopters recently purchased by the Air Force, crashed shortly after take-off from the Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade headquarters at Camp Ranao.
It served as back-up to another Sokol chopper carrying Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin.
A helicopter crew member and a boy were injured when the aircraft went down.
According to the Air Force, the parts of the damaged chopper will be brought to Cagayan de Oro.
Seven other Sokol helicopters, meanwhile, have been grounded following the crash. -- Report from Roxanne Arevalo, ABS-CBN News Iligan
