MANILA, Philippines – An estimated P500,000 worth of illegal logs were seized by authorities from a vacant lot in Brgy. San Roque, Sto. Tomas, Batangas on Saturday.
Authorities said the owner of the logs, identified as a certain Victor Claro, did not have the proper documents, as well as a permit to transport.
Claro has denied that the logs were acquired illegally, but he may still face charges of illegal possession of forest products without a permit.
The raid was conducted by officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) , Batangas Provincial Task Force and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at around 6 a.m.
Authorities said rare Yakal wood possibly from Quezon or Mindoro were also recovered, apart from Mahogany, Camachile, Duhat and Narra.
