MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Jose has strengthened and is now packing winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 220 kph, but it is still too far away to directly affect the country.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, "Jose" was last spotted 1,120 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, moving west-northwest at 11 kilometers per hour.

Jose, however, continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.

Those in Zambales and Bataan should brace for monsoon rains, which could trigger floods and landslides.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will also have occasional showers, while the Visayas can expect light to moderate rains.

Mindanao will stay generally dry, except for Caraga, which is seeing some light showers. -- Reports from ANC, DZMM.
