Villafuerte, son clash on plans to split CamSur
BICOL, Philippines – It was not your usual Senate hearing.
There were protests in Naga City as a Senate hearing was held on the proposal to divide Camarines Sur into two provinces.
But there were also dance performances and various gimmicks.
Local officials in favor of the proposal and those opposing it expressed their views.
“Kapag nagkaroon tayo ng dalawang probinsya, magkakaroon tayo ng plural premium province of Camarines Sur,” said Camarines Sur 4th District Rep. Noli Fuentebella.
Camarines Sur Governor LRay Villafuerte, the son of 3rd District Rep. Luis Villafuerte, is against the proposal to divide the province.
“Eh kung gusto ni Congressman Fuentebella siya na lang humiwalay eh di sila ang humiwalay,” LRay said.
The discussion became heated as the older Villafuerte and his son LRay got into an argument.
The older Villafuerte is in favor of dividing CamSur.
“Nagtataka ako, palibhasa matagal ko nang hindi kinakausap si Governor LRay. Ano ba nangyari sa iyo? Kapag nagsalita ka para ka nang bakla,” Villafuerte said.
At this point, LRay's son, Migz Villafuerte, approached his grandfather to try and calm him down.
Migz is planning to run for governor in the 2013 elections against his grandfather.
“Eto palabas ni LRay no? Kunyari yayakap-yakap pero lalaban sa lolo. Teka muna. Miguel, this is my turn. Oh ano naga-apologize ka? Huwag kang sumunod sa tatay mo,” the older Villafuerte said.
Migz just backed down and his father comforted him.
The Senate has now heard the different opinions on the possibility of dividing the province.
The issue may be decided through a plebiscite.
As for the Villafuerte family feud, it's up to the grandfather, the son, and the grandson to settle it. -- ANC
