MANILA, Philippines – Another spillway gate at Magat Dam in Isabela was opened on Friday as water level at the dam remains at critical level.

The dam has increased release of water by 469 cubic meters per second to boost the release rate to 1,069 cubic meters per second, which is equivalent to 5,000 drums of water.

Authorities said the release of water may last until Sunday depending on the amount of downpour in the region.

They also said residents living in the vicinity of the dam should not worry over the possibility of flooding.

However, fishing vessels are still prohibited at the Magat River as a precautionary measure.

As of 11 a.m., water level at the dam was at 191.58 meters, nearing the spilling level of 193 meters. -- Report from Julius Camba, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
