MANILA, Philippines – Floods caused by monsoon rains and typhoon “Gener” have yet to subside in most parts of Hermosa, Bataan.

Over 7,000 families in 13 barangays are affected, with many children now getting sick.

Aside from Hermosa, parts of Orani, Orion and Morong are also still flooded due to the rains and the high tide.

In Naic, Cavite, strong winds still prevail in coastal barangays.

Fishermen had to wear life jackets but the strong waves still forced them to return to shore.

Their livelihood has been badly affected by the recent storm surges, which also destroyed several houses.

“Walang magagawa eh talagang ganoon. Wala naman kaming mapaglilipatan,” said Armando Jaro, one of the residents.

Floods still remain in parts of Obando and Hagonoy, Bulacan.

But residents face a bigger problem trying to cope with the tragedy.

Fishpens, schools and houses were destroyed by heavy rains and floods.

Many residents are now just waiting for help to arrive.

“Naghihintay na lang ng kamatayan, wala namang kaming tatakbuhan na kabayanan,” said one of the residents, Cesar Gregorio.

Authorities have been distributing relief goods to affected residents across Camanava and nearby provinces, but more aid is needed. -- Reports from Doland Castro and Atom Araullo, ABS-CBN News; ANC
