COTABATO CITY - An alleged member of the 108th Base Command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was shot dead in Barangay Damalasak, Pagalungan, Maguindanao Wednesday afternoon.

The man, identified as Usman Pandapatan, sustained multiple gunshot wounds from an M16 rifle, causing his immediate death.

According to 602nd Brigade spokesperson Capt. Calvin Macatangay, Pandapatan was walking home when he was suddenly shot by the suspects led by a certain Dagimam along Sitio Punol.

Dagiman is also a member of 108th Base Command.

"Bale isa lang yung victim and then grupo yung sa kabila. Based on our intelligence gathering, nasa Pagalungan pa rin sila ngayon pero nasa may marshy area. Agad ring tumakas ang mga ito right after nung incident," said Macatangay.

Authorities believe "rido" or clan war was the motive behind the shooting incident.

"Base sa mga nakalap nating information, may previous incident na kasi. Accordingly, itong grupo nung victim noon ay mayroong napatay sa grupo nung certain Dagimam, kaya ngayon bumawi," Macatangay added.

Macatangay said they have already asked for the assistance of the local government unit of Pagalungan to settle the feud between the two groups.

They are also seeking the help of the MILF Central Committee regarding the issue.
