MANILA -- Heavy rains in the past few days triggered floods in 18 barangays of Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao on Sunday.

Mayor Datu Shameem Mastura said flooding has been a perennial problem of their town because of the dredging at Rio Grande.

Mastura called the attention of the national government to help them find solution to their flooding problems.

"Tuwing umuulan ng malakas ganito talaga ang sitwasyon, matagal na ito, hindi na dapat magsisihan pero sana matapos na ang matagal nang dredging na yan sa Rio Grande," Mastura said.

The local government of Sultan Kudarat has already extended relief goods to the flood victims.

Matsura said the local government will be monitoring the situation until the floods subside. --report by Albashir Saiden, ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao
