MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration in Region 7 arrested a Japanese national who is wanted for bank fraud in Japan.
The suspect, 42-year-old Fukuoka resident Takajairo Oyama, was arrested inside his apartment in Barangay Casili, Consolacion town past 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Oyama had been living in Consolacion for 7 months . He went into hiding after the Japanese consulate canceled his passport last April 2, 2012.
Oyama is being accused of withdrawing 2.5 million yen from a bank in Fukuoka. The amount is part of the disaster assistance fund for the victims of the 2005 Fukuoka earthquake.
Oyama was allegedly able to withdraw the money with the help of two accomplices. He managed to get the money after he allegedly told the bank that his two companions were earthquake victims.
BI records show that Oyama arrived in the Philippines on December 11, 2011 and did not update his record since then. The immigration bureau processed his deportation yesterday.
