MANILA, Philippines – Eight Hong Kong and Taipei-bound flights were diverted to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Pampanga Tuesday due to bad weather, an official said.

Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Victor Jose Luciano said the eight flights were supposed to arrive in Hong Kong and Taipei but were forced to land in Pampanga due to bad weather in the destination.

One of the airplanes was an Airbus 330 Hong Kong Express which carried 262 passengers.

All the affected passengers were sent to a hotel in Fontana Leisure Park as airport officials wait for the weather to clear.

Luciano said two more flights are expected to arrive at the airport and one of them is a Shenzhen, China-bound Cathay Pacific 747 flight from Amsterdam. – report from Jay Pelayo, dzMM
