2 women brutally killed inside home in Cavite

CAVITE, Philippines - A teenager and her cousin were brutally killed inside their own home in Bacoor, Cavite on Wednesday.

Police Officer 3 Bernard Camposanto of the Bacoor Police Station identified the victims as 19-year-old Janice Pausanos and her cousin, Leona Paloma, residents of Barangay Molino.

Camposanto said the police station received a call past 5 p.m. Wednesday from the victims' relatives.

He said they Pausanos died of a single stab wound in the neck while Paloma died of 2 stab wounds in the neck and 2 more stab wounds in the abdomen.

He added that the killer strangled Paloma with an electric fan's cord. Her body was found naked from waist down in their home's kitchen floor.

Camposanto said that crime scene investigators suspect that Paloma was raped before she was killed. He said traces of semen-like fluid were found in her private part.

Pausanos's sisters said the crime could have happened between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.. They said they left the victims around 3 p.m. and returned home 2 hours later.

Camposanto said the jungle bolo used in the crime was recovered inside the victims' home.

The police investigator was confident that they will be able to immediately solve the crime.

"We are digging up something, but we can't name the suspect because he might get away," Camposanto said in Filipino.

He added that aside from the suspect, who was seen leaving the victims' house, at the supposed time that the crime happened, they are also interrogating a group of men working at a construction site near the victims' home.

He said each worker's fingerprints will be taken and cross-matched with the prints they lifted from the crime scene. -- Report from Dominic Almelor, ABS-CBN News
