CEBU, Philippines – Two yachts were razed by fire early Saturday morning at the Cebu Yacht Club.

Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department said the fire started at the Spirit of Freedom yacht owned by a certain Michelle Merchant. Another yacht beside it, Kai Kapu, also partly caught fire. The yacht is owned by Sakae Torisawa.

The fire was declared under control after 25 minutes.

Based on the initial investigation of Fire Investigator FO2 Climaco Salisid, the fire started at the engine room of Spirit of Freedom. They later found out that the converted overheated which later on caused the short circuit at the engine room and produced fire.

No arson was found and fire department declared it accidental in nature.

Salisid said that the Spirit of Freedom yacht was worth p40 million but they only estimated a damage of around P1.8 million.
