MANILA, Philippines – Water was released from Binga Dam in Benguet on Saturday following nonstop rains in the region.
The water level at the dam reached 574.12 meters, nearing the spilling level of 575 meters.
This prompted authorities to open of the dam’s gates by half a meter to release water.
Authorities said despite the release of water, residents living in the vicinity should not fear flooding because the water released by Binga will flow to the San Roque Dam in Pangasinan.
Heavy rains in Northern Luzon were caused by tropical depression “Ferdie” and the southwest monsoon.
The weather disturbance is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday evening. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
