MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has approved the implementation of gun ban in Davao City as part of the preparations for this year’s Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival, the Philippine News Agency reported.
The gun ban will run from August 1 to 31.
Superintendent Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in Region 11 (PRO 11), said only policemen, soldiers and personnel from other law enforcement agencies will be allowed to carry firearms.
“The measure is part of the security preparations to ensure that the celebration of the Kadayawan Festival will be free from firearm-related incidents and safe for the residents and tourists,” Magistrado said.
The police will also set up various checkpoints and deploy added mobile policemen to beef up security in the entire city, which is expected to draw tourists during the festivities.
A same gun ban was implemented in the city last March in view of the Araw ng Dabaw 2012.
