Yusoph kidnapper killed in Lanao clash

MANILA, Philippines – The leader of a bandit group allegedly holding the son of a poll commissioner captive was killed in an encounter in Lanao del Sur, Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Geovanni Franza, commanding officer of the Philippine Army's 51st Infantry Battalion, identified the slain suspect as Dimaporo Dimasakal, alias Commander Delta Force.

Franza said Dimasakal was killed by troops in an encounter in Barangay Aleem Rayah, Masiuh town around 3 p.m..

He said Dimasakal's death was confirmed by the villagers.

Franza said that according to field reports, Dimasakal was able to shoot 2 civilians before he was killed by the Army troopers.

On Tuesday morning, Dimasakal’s group ambushed Army troops, killing one soldier and leaving 5 others wounded in Poona Bayabao’s town proper.

The group is said to be holding Comelec Commissioner Elias Yusoph’s son, Nuraldin. Report from Trinidad Velasco, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
