MANILA, Philippines – A woman was arrested in Bacolod City Thursday night after attempting to sell hornbills from Palawan.

Rosita Formentera, 56, was caught with 23 hornbills which she intended to sell for P2,000 to P 10,000 in pet shops in Iloilo.

Formentera was arrested after a Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) officer pretended to be a customer interested in buying the birds.

The suspect was not able to show any document to prove that the transport of the birds was legal.

CENRO officials said persons authorized to transport endangered species should be able to present certificate. – report from Mark Salanga, ABS-CBN News Negros
