Swiss man critical after being shot in Palawan

MANILA, Philippines – A Swiss national is in critical condition after he was shot in Palawan on Tuesday night.

Daniel Gubler, 51, was shot by a motorcycle-riding gunman in Barangay Maunlad, Puerto Princesa City.

Gubler was shot thrice. The bullets hit his back, side and stomach.

Two people who were in the area were hit by stray bullets.

Aljever Pe and Febelyn Evidor, both 20, sustained gunshot wounds to the left foot and left ear, respectively. They are now on their way to recovery.

The gunman, who was accompanied by a rider, was not identified.

Locals said Gubler was a frequent tourist to the province.

Gubler was scheduled to be air-lifted to Manila today for treatment.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the shooting. They recovered several empty bullet shells from the crime scene, which will undergo ballistics examination. – report from Leila Gabinete, ABS-CBN News Palawan
