MANILA - Cebuano priest Romeo Obach has paid a visit to the 17-year-old unwed mother he berated during her baby's christening ceremony to personally ask for her forgiveness.

The single mother said Obach went to her house on Wednesday evening to personally apologize over his actions during her baby's baptism last Sunday.

She said, upon seeing her at the door, a tearful Obach immediately hugged her and asked for her forgiveness.

She said she felt the sincerity of Obach, who also gave her a religious medal from the church.

According to her, she feels much better now that they have already settled the issue.

She has also removed from Facebook the video clip of Obach rebuking her for having a baby with a man who was not her husband.

The video, which was uploaded by her mother, made the rounds online, with many netizens saying the priest did not have the right to insult the young mother.

She is now appealing to the public to stop criticizing Obach.

Meanwhile, the Redemptorist community in Cebu commended Obach for taking responsibility for his actions.

"It was very humbling. At the same time, it was very sincere," said media liaison Fr. Alfonso Suico.

But Suico said they will continue with the investigation into the incident. -- Report from Joworski Alipon, ABS-CBN News Central Visayas
