44 Taiwanese nabbed in Iloilo for alleged scam

MANILA – Forty-four Taiwanese nationals allegedly involved in telecommunications fraud were arrested in two separate operations in Iloilo on Wednesday.

In Jaro district's Ledesco Village, 21 Taiwanese nationals were arrested for alleged telephone fraud and money laundering.

Seized from the suspects were Internet modems, routers, laptops, and other telecommunication devices.

Police said the suspects were targeting unwitting victims from mainland China.

One of the suspects was injured while attempting to escape.

Another raid in Mandurriao district resulted in the arrest of 23 more Taiwanese nationals.

Similar telecommunication devices were seized from the suspects.
The owner of the house where the suspects carried out their operations claimed not knowing about the illegal operations of the foreign nationals.

The 43 foreign nationals are facing charges for violating Republic Act 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation Act. – reports from Regi Adosto and Jenel Baclay, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
