Diarrhea downs 35 in N. Vizcaya; outbreak declared
NUEVA VIZCAYA -- The Provincial Health Office of Nueva Vizcaya has declared a diarrhea outbreak in Barangay Communal in Solano town, after 35 residents suffered from the illness.
Last week, a 3-year-old boy from Sitio Ablang also died of diarrhea.
According to Dr. Edwin Galapon, Provincial Health Officer, the victim, Jaylord Dinamling, died of dehydration.
Laboratory test results showed that the residents have been drinking water contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
The local government of Solano has started to treat the sources of drinking water in Barangay Communal.
However, authorities still advise residents to boil the water before drinking it.
Those who are experiencing symptoms of diarrhea are also advised to immediately go to the doctor to avoid dehydration, which commonly causes death. -- report from Harris Julio, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
