MANILA, Philippines – Nine people were injured after a bus rammed a row of concrete barriers along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) in Sta. Rosa, Laguna Tuesday evening.
A T Shuttle Sevice Inc. bus rammed the concrete barriers at Kilometer 36 of SLEx’s northbound lane at around 9:30 p.m.
The bus, which was carrying 30 employees of Amkor Technology, fell on its side.
SLEx’s mobile patrol unit said bus driver Noel Nuñez lost control of the vehicle after shifting to the right lane.
Trucks and vehicles are only allowed to travel along SLEx’s first and second lanes from the shoulder called the “fast lanes.”
“Galing siya sa lane 4, fast lane. Nag-overtake siya sa right lane. Nag lose control, tumama sa guard rails at tumagilid siya (bus)… Dapat lane 1 and 2 lang sila. Hindi sila dapat tumakbo sa fast lane. May mga driver pa rin na hindi sumusunod,” said Manila Toll Expressway System Supervisor Maximiliano Casaus.
Nine passengers were injured in the crash. A passenger with the surname Delos Santos is in critical condition after sustaining a neck injury.
“Naramdaman ko na lang na parang o-overtake siya. Nung pagkanan nung bus bigla na lang dumire-diretso. Iyung majority ok naman, minor injuries lang. Yung iba naman yung mga natutulog siguro sila yung medyo nasugatan,” said Willie Santos, one of the passengers.
No footage was available on the crash as the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the area was not functioning at the time of the accident.
Nuñez, meanwhile, is facing reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property. – report from Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
