Grenade blast rocks North Cotabato
COTABATO CITY - A loud explosion of a hand grenade caused panic among residents of Purok Sampaloc, Barangay Mother Bagua, Cotabato City on Wednesday morning.
Cotabato City Police Precinct 4 Deputy Chief Insp. Alexander de Pedro said the grenade was thrown by a still unidentified suspect just 5 hours after a shooting incident in the same area.
"Bago ang pagsabog, isang lalaki yung binaril doon din sa area," De Pedro said.
"So, siguro, the explosion was due to retaliation ng kamag-anak nung binaril," he said.
The slain man was identified as Mohamed Modin, a 30-year-old sidewalk vendor and a resident of Poblacion 7, Cotabato City.
Authorities believe illegal drug trade is behind the incidents.
"Yung victim kasi is known by the community as a drug user and also a pusher daw," De Pedro said.
Modin is the first victim of a shooting incident in the city during the Ramadan season.
