MANILA, Philippines – A Davao police officer was arrested on Wednesday after he tried to kidnap a medical representative of Mt. Apo Doctors Hospital.
The suspect, PO1 RM Makhael Oliver Dicay, was caught after he withdrew cash from a money transfer sent by co-workers of the victim, identified as Vanessa Motus.
Police said Motus was about to board her car when Dicay entered the passenger seat and threatened her with a gun.
Dicay allegedly demanded P70,000 from Motus as they drove around Davao City for 4 hours.
Motus borrowed the cash from her co-workers, who alerted police before wiring the money.
Dicay, a member of the Regional Public Safety Battalion of Davao Police, was arrested after withdrawing the money.
Recovered from him were 2 cellphones, the receipt of the money transfer and a .45 caliber pellet gun.
Dicay denied that he kidnapped Motus but admitted he extorted money due to his financial troubles.
He is facing charges of kidnap for ransom.
“Harapin niya ‘yung consequences ng actions niya. Sana in the first place palang naisip na niya ‘yung kalalabasan ng ginawa niya,” said Motus. -- Report from Francis Magbanua, ABS-CBN News Davao
