MANILA – High-powered firearms, ammunitions and other weapons were recovered from a Bacolod resident in a raid conducted on Wednesday evening.
The Regional Intelligence Office 6 of Barangay Banago, Bacolod said they found 16 AK-47s, two shotguns, two .45 caliber guns, 11 boxes of different ammunitions, 140 empty magazines, 25 knives and cleaning kits from the house of a certain Eugene Gawat in Santa Clara subdivision around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police said five gun licenses were also found during the raid but are still subject for verification.
The raid was carried out by virtue of a search warrant. However, Gawat was not around when the raid was conducted.
According to Supt. Roland Allan Gepana, they confirmed that the suspect is not a firearm holder after checking with firearms and explosives security agencies and the guard supervisory section.
The suspect could face charges of violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
Recovered items are now under the custody of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office. - Report from Meneil Lopez, ABS-CBN News
