ZAMBOANGA CITY - Rough seas brought by inclement weather are forcing local fisherman in coastal barangays to stay put and stop fishing.
Musadi Tahaji, a tribal leader of Badjaos in Barangay Maasin, east of the city, said most of the fishermen have stopped fishing for the last five days.
Some fishermen that braved the seas only caught a few fish while others brought their bancas to higher ground as strong waves continued to batter the seawall and coastal line.
Weather forecasters said the rough weather is caused by the intertropical convergence zone. They reminded fishermen to be watchful of sea conditions and avoid fishing if bad weather continues.
