MANILA - The police official tagged in the murder of Crown Regency Hotel owner Richard King has surrendered to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Sr. Supt. Leonardo Felonia, chief of the regional police intelligence unit, was identified by one of the three suspects arrested earlier as the police official who ordered them to shoot King.

Suspect Rommel dela Cerna alleged that Felonia called him and told him to look for King inside the Vital C building in Obrero, Davao City last June 12.

Upon confirming that the businessman was inside the building, dela Cerna said alleged gunman Paul Labang went in and shot King.

They then escaped on a motorcycle driven by dela Cerna's brother, Rodel.

Felonia denied the accusations against him. He said he surrendered to Duterte to prove his innocence.

"That's why I am here submitting myself for investigation," he said.

Felonia was brought by the Davao mayor to the office of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

"Biglang nag-contact sa akin si Felonia na mag-surrender siya sa akin. And I told him I am not the right person, dapat don sa NBI," Duterte said.

Meanwhile, the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Region 11 has filed murder charges against the four suspects. -- Reports from Francis Magbanua and Elric Ayop, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
