MANILA (UPDATED) - Two councilors of Sto. Niño town in Cagayan and a civilian were killed after the vehicle they were riding fell off a bridge in Barangay Masical on Friday afternoon, police said.

The fatalities were identified as Councilors Orlando Campano and Rosendo Ruiz, and Zenaida de Leon.

Three other councilors, identified as Jamil Romeo Uy, Felomena Tulali and Romeo Pecson, and another civilian, Robin Evangelista, were injured in the accident.

Police said the victims came from a wake in Barangay Tabang and were on their way home when the accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m.

Investigation showed that Uy lost control of the Mitsubishi Montero vehicle while he was maneuvering a sharp curve.

This caused the vehicle to swerve then fall off the bridge and into the river, police said.

Both Campano and Ruiz were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The four wounded victims are still seeking treatment at St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City. Authorities said Uy is in critical condition.

Police said Uy could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries. -- Report from Harris Julio, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
