2 alleged Abu Sayyaf members arrested in Zambo
ZAMBOANGA - Two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were arrested by joint military and police forces in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City on Monday.
Authorities were supposed to serve a warrant of arrest against a certain alias Walid, an alleged Abu Sayyaf bandit, for charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom at around 1 p.m.
The arrest warrant was issued Zamboanga Regional Trial Court Branch 16.
Walid, however, was able to evade arrest.
His two companions, Jimmy Nurilla alias Doc and Bakrin Haris, were arrested.
Authorities said Nurilla and Haris are also active members of the Abu Sayyaf operating in Zamboanga City. They have links to the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group under Khair Mundos and Furuji Indama.
Nurilla was also allegedly involved in the abduction of Australian national Warren Rodwell, US citizen Kevin Lunsman, school teacher Cathy Casipong, and Sabrina Voon, who remains in captivity.
Several explosives and cell phones used in negotiations with the kidnap victims' families were recovered from the suspects.
