MANILA (UPDATED) - The low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression, state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday.

PAGASA said the tropical depression was estimated at 460 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes as of 5 p.m.

The cyclone has a small chance of entering PAR. However, it enhances the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing rains over the northern and western parts of Luzon.

PAGASA said Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, the regions of Ilocos and Cordillera, and the provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan will experience monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, and the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Mindoro and Palawan will have occasional rains.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms, PAGASA said.
