MANILA, Philippines – Two people died after eating butterfly fish in Claveria, Cagayan last week, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
DOH – Region 2 said Samuel Baltico, 26, died last June 8 after eating the fish, locally called as “parparia”.
Baltico experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea about 30 minutes after eating the fish. He died at the hospital at around 10 p.m. that day.
Another victim, Crispina Balaan, 88, died the following the day after eating the same fish.
Two other residents also suffered from vomiting and diarrhea after eating the fish.
Meanwhile, seven policemen were also rushed to the hospital after eating “tulingan” that was caught off Fuga island. – report from Harris Julio, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
