Severe floods hit parts of Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines – Motorists were stranded for almost 2 hours when heavy rains caused water levels to surge in Bukidnon on Tuesday.

Barangays Cabangahan and Aglayan were inundated, including at least 60 homes and farmlands.

Miner Ernie Berezo was found dead in Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

He was swept by floods while digging inside a tunnel.

Because of the downpour, Cagayan de Oro residents are busy preparing for the possible surge of the river.

Jimmy Macababat of the Disaster Management Service Region 10 said they advised residents to look for flotation devices in case water levels rise.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has also issued flood advisories in some parts of Mindanao, specifically:

•    Region 10 - Northern Mindanao (Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon)
•    Region 11 - Davao region
•    Region 13 - Caraga

Meanwhile, Sagip Kapamilya gave relief goods for residents affected by a landslide in Marilog District in Davao.
Floods in Pangasinan, Lingayen

Mindanao is not the only region affected by heavy rains caused by a shallow low pressure area.

In Pangasinan, residents in coastal areas are busy preparing for floods.

In Lingayen, residents are monitoring the spur dike of the Agno River. They fear that it may break down if rains continue.

Boy killed in Ilocos Sur mishap

In San Nicolas, Ilocos Sur, a jeep figured in an accident due to slippery roads.

Grade 3 student Julius Ian Gungab was killed when he was hit by the jeep.

Six others were wounded, including driver Rodel Jacobo who is now in jail. -- ANC
