COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) spokesperson Eid Kabalu has been named the new spokesperson for the civilian component of the 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, according to 6th ID Commander Maj. Gen. Rey Ardo.

Ardo said Kabalu is fit for the position because they need someone who is knowledgeable on political issues in the region.

Kabalu, meanwhile, said he accepted the position in the name of community, development and peace.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police gave their trust and support to Kabalu in helping them achieve peace in the south.

Kabalu was removed from his post as MILF spokesman last year after he expressed interest in becoming officer-in-charge governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). -- Report from Lerio Bompat, ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao
