CEBU - It's not just in Metro Manila where prisoners have access to cellphones and illegal drugs.
An inspection done in Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) yielded several illegal items such as cellphones, chargers and drug paraphernalia.
The jail warden and the consultant of CPDRC conducted an inspection in each cell. Authorities performed body frisking on all inmates, and inspected all beds.
All of the inmates' personal belongings were also inspected to check for any illegal items.
A cellphone was found hidden inside an empty water container inside the facility. Both the phone and the charger were confiscated, since both items are not allowed inside the jail.
Authorities also recovered some drug paraphernalia and tin foil.
The management of CPDRC is also conducting an investigation to verify reports that some jail guards are involved in the illegal drugs trade in the facility. These jail guard allegedly allow illegal drugs to be sent in the facility.
Marco Toral, consultant at CPDRC, said he will give a reward to those who will identify who among their colleagues are involved in said illegal activity.
