BATANGAS CITY -- Officials from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized two container vans containing around 60,000 kilos of garlic at the Batangas Port on Wednesday morning.

BOC district collector Ernesto Benitez said the two containers vans arrived in Batangas last week from Hong Kong.

He said the shipment was supposed to contain raw materials for chocolate.

Benitez said that a certain Antonio Enriquez was recorded as broker, and the shipment came from Good Earth Merchandising, a Cagayan de Oro-based company.

However, they found out that the company does not exist.

The BOC will throw away the smuggled garlic. - report from Joan Panopio, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
