6 hurt after ship explodes in Zamboanga

MANILA, Philippines – Six crew members of M/L Nursibo sustained third-degree burns after their ship exploded past noon on Saturday.

The crew members were reportedly sailing from Jolo en route to Tawi-Tawi.

According to ship operator Lajid Alwidal, they are still trying to figure out the cause of the explosion.

He reported that the generator of the ship sparked and that they tried to stop the fire.

Alwidal, however, is thankful that he and his fellow crew members were able to jump from the vessel.

The victims were immediately rescued by fishermen and were rushed to a hospital in Zamboanga City for treatment. - from a report by Leizel Lacastesantos, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
