NPA attacks army convoy in Compostela Valley

MANILA, Philippines – Two army soldiers were wounded when a landmine exploded just as the army convoy was passing through Mawab town, Compostela Valley.

The explosion occurred at 5:30 a.m. at Purok 2, Barangay Nuevo Visayas, in Mawab.

The wounded soldiers, who sustained minor injuries, were brought to a hospital in Davao City.

The soldiers from the 74th Infantry Battalion were on board four military vehicles headed for a barangay in Mawab to conduct peace and development outreach program when the landmine exploded.

On Friday, NPA rebels also attacked and burned equipment and disarmed security personnel in three mining firms in Maragusan, Nabunturan and New Bataan also in the province. -- Hernel Tocmo, ABS-CBN News
