TANAUAN CITY - Employees of Tanauan City Hall in Batangas were shocked when 21 men clad all in black and carrying high-caliber firearms invaded the city hall premises after the flag raising ceremony Monday morning.
After a short hostage drama, the men were formally presented as members of the new Special Weapon and Tactics Team or SWAT.
According to Police Inspector Alfie Salang, head of the newly formed SWAT team, they were sent to Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan for a two-month training that enabled them to perform special duties outside the capability of regular police officers. This includes responding to hostage-taking situations and terrorism attacks.
The Tanauan city government invested P7 million in the training and also provided the team with a brand new mobile unit and advanced equipment including night vision optics.
Tanauan Mayor Sonia Aquino is confident that having a SWAT team will help improve the peace and order situation in their locality. This is the very first SWAT team to be launched in the province of Batangas.
