MANILA - A potential cyclone was spotted off Batanes on Friday morning, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.
PAGASA said the low pressure area (LPA) was spotted in the vicinity of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 a.m.
Weather forecaster Joey Figuracion told radio dzMM that the LPA may intensify into a tropical cyclone.
"Malaki ang tiyansang maging bagyo ang LPA," he said.
"'Maring' ang itatawag sakaling maging bagyo ito," he added.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (habagat) is currently affecting the western section of the country.
Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will be partly cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
