MANIILA, Philippines – A town mayor in Negros Occidental has been elected as the replacement of the late Rep. Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.
Liberal Party's Alejandro Mirasol, mayor of Binalbagan town, is the new representative of the 5th district of Negros Occidental.
More than 150,000 residents took part in the special elections, with more than 80,000 votes going to Mirasol.
Mirasol was well ahead of his opponent, provincial board member Emilio Yulo III, who garnered less than 70,000 votes.
Mirasol takes over the post of Arroyo, who succumbed to his liver ailment earlier this year in London. - ANC
