COTABATO CITY -- An improvised explosive device (IED), made from a 60-millimeter mortar, was found near a store in Barangay Poblacion, Pikit, North Cotabato on Tuesday evening.
According to the Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of Pikit Police Station, the IED was found together with a cellular phone, blasting cap, LED, capacitor, and 9-volt battery.
The explosive was immediately disrupted by the team.
Based on the statement of the residents near the area, there were three men who went to the store, pretended to be customers and bought cigarettes.
Authorities have yet to determine whether this is related to the
road side explosion last May 12 in Barangay Batulawan, Pikit, North Cotabato, wherein two IEDs exploded and another was safely defused.
Meanwhile, another improvised landmine was found a few meters from the highway of Barangay Labu-o, President Roxas, North Cotabato on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Provincial Police Office EOD team, the landmine was placed in a container with a weight of 6 kilos.
57th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Nilo Vinluan claimed the New People's Army (NPA) left the landmine.
Two IEDs were found in Barangay Greenhill, President Roxas two days after rebels attacked the town's police station on May 20.
Four landmines were also recovered days after in Luna Sur, Makilala, North Cotabato.
