Chinese shot dead in Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines – An unidentified Chinese national was killed while his driver was injured in an ambush incident in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur before dawn Sunday.

The victim and his driver, identified as Carlos Uy, were inside a parked Mazda vehicle beside a highway in Barangay San Nicolas when two men riding a single motorcycle strafed their vehicle.

The Chinese national sustained five gunshot wounds, while Uy sustained two.

Uy was rushed to Gabriela Silang General Hospital in Vigan City for treatment. An identification card recovered from him indicated that he is a resident of Pasay City.

Meanwhile, police recovered eight cellphones, several cigarettes, P40,000, a tooter and a white crystalline substance inside the victims’ car.

Police have yet to determine if the white substance is an illegal drug. They also have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. – report from Bryan Realgo, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon
