Ex-police shoots two over cockfighting dispute

CEBU -- An ex-councilor and a civilian were wounded after a retired policeman shot them during a cockfighting dispute in Bulacao, Talisay City Saturday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Talisay City former councilor Emil Go and cockfighting “expectator” Junrey Bacalso.

The suspect was retired SPO3 Ulysses Desamparado, who was assigned at the Communication Electronics Department of Police Regional Office in Central Visayas.

Go was shot in the neck and was immediately brought to Chong Hua Hospital.

Bacalso was grazed by a bullet at his right side and was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

According to the initial investigation conducted by Talisay City Police, a brother of Desamparado picked a fight among cockfighting audience.

Desamparado immediately sided with his brother.

Go noticed the squabble and tried to pacify the two parties when Desamparado brought out a gun and fired at Go. Another gunshot went out and hit Bacalso.

Desamparado voluntarily surrendered to Talisay City Police Office and was brought to crime laboratory for ballistic and paraffin test.
