Cop shot dead by alleged NPA rebels in Misamis

MANILA, Philippines – A policeman was shot dead by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental on Thursday afternoon.

Police Officer 1 Al Tinampay, an intelligence officer from Lagonglong town municipal police station, was shot in the head by one of four suspected NPA guerillas at a cockpit arena in Barangay Umagos at around 3:30 p.m.

Tinampay was reportedly looking for a fugitive in the cockpit arena when the shooting occurred.

The NPA guerillas allegedly belong to the rebel group’s Front Committee 4-B. They took the victim’s 9 millimeter pistol before fleeing the crime scene.

Police also discovered that Tinampay’s house was raided. They said the slain policeman’s M16 rifle, police uniform and some ammunitionswere taken from the house.

Lagonglong Police have placed the entire town on red alert following the murder. – report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
