ILOCOS SUR – Residents of the coastal municipality of San Esteban in Ilocos Sur attempted to save the pups of a dead shark caught by a local fisherman.

The locals were shocked to find out that the shark was pregnant and cut it open in the hopes of saving the pups.

According to Lauro Follero, one of the residents, it's their first time to catch this kind of shark so he took a video of it and uploaded it on social media.

Six live pups were handed over to the Municipal Agriculture Office but unfortunately they died after a couple of hours.

They were then turned over to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

The fisherman who caught the shark said he feared that it might be an endangered species. But, according to the Municipal Agriculturist, the shark that was caught was one of those types that can be eaten.
