ANGELES CITY -- A Korean national was arrested Saturday evening after he was caught attempting to rob his companions in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Members of Angeles City Police Station 4 were patrolling Fields Avenue in Balibago, Angeles City on Saturday night when they saw someone alighting from a vehicle and asking for help.

According to Police Chief Inspector Romeo Castro, they immediately responded and arrested the suspect who was trying to rob the other passengers of the vehicle.

The suspect was identified as Yang Rae Song, 37.

Recovered from him was a caliber .45 gun and a bag containing P4,133,000 in cash that he tried to take from the employees of a money changer shop.

Castro added that the employees went with the suspect because he was a loyal customer.

"Usually palitan lang ng bag, pero this time, nanutok ng baril para mang-holdup," Castro said.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect has a P15-million debt in a casino.

Song will be charged with robbery and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Authorities are also working with the Bureau of Immigration to check whether the suspect is legally staying in the country. -- report from Gracie Rutao, ABS-CBN News Pampanga
